ARROGANT

A Spiritual Teacher and a Life Lesson.

A woman, who considers herself very intelligent and capable, has received many prestigious academic awards throughout her life. She is able to understand and learn everything quickly, and she admits that she has a great deal of pride, always looking at others with a sense of superiority. However, she has always struggled with money because she lacks good control over her finances. Occasionally, when she senses that her partners are exploiting her during collaborations, she pulls out. Despite her intelligence, she is impatient and tends to lose interest in things once she has accomplished them to some extent. As a result, her business endeavors have never been truly successful.

She has a mother who is extremely controlling, often reprimanding her, and always talking about money. She realizes that her behavior toward her children is unconsciously influenced by how her mother treated her. On the other hand, she has a husband who deeply loves her, cares for her wounds, and always believes in the goodness within her.

During a hypnosis session, she experienced three different lifetimes. In one of them, her husband had to work far away to pay off debts, and she, missing him, lost contact and was always the one searching for him. Her subconscious wanted to remind her to value her husband’s presence in her current life, where he willingly stayed by her side, never leaving her. It also encouraged her to use the same patience and determination she had in searching for her husband in her past life, to be more patient and persistent in her work today.

Regarding her relationship with her mother, the subconscious took her back to the past when her mother was young. She saw her mother loving her, teaching her many things, encouraging her to study, and working hard to earn money. She saw her mother happy, smiling, and gentle, in contrast to the memories of her mother scolding her, which she had always carried. She saw her grandmother scolding her mother, making her cry, and her father doubting and criticizing her, which made her mother feel hurt. Her mother wanted her to grow up quickly so they could talk and for her to understand. But as she grew older, whenever she made a mistake, her mother, remembering how her own mother had scolded her, would then scold her. She realized that her mother was reliving old emotions from when her grandmother scolded her and couldn’t control it, which is why she scolded and hit her.

Her mother wanted to use her academic achievements to prove to others that she had been a successful and capable mother. This perspective helped her ease the resentment she felt toward her mother and feel more sympathy for her. At the same time, the pressure from her mother’s expectations created a sense of recklessness in her business ventures, causing her to rush toward success in an attempt to impress her mother and bring her joy. This rush led her to lose more money. She finally realized that she didn’t need to rush or prove anything to anyone — she just needed to do meaningful work.

The Spiritual Teacher and Life Lesson (Expanded)

The spiritual teacher showed the woman a vision of herself in a space filled with people sitting in a meditative pose, like in a spiritual gathering. She was seated on a step-like chair, the kind used in lecture halls or theaters, with the seats expanding upward and narrowing toward the stage. All the seats were constantly spinning because if they were stationary, she would only see her own position. Her parents and her husband were there too, but her mother looked very stern. The teacher explained that her mother was suffering, and tasked her with ensuring that her mother would no longer suffer. With the wisdom given to her, the first person she needed to help was her mother. Her father and husband were there to support her in helping her mother.

The seats continued to spin, causing her to feel dizzy. Because they were spinning, she was able to see everyone sitting in different positions, including many people who were more accomplished than she was. The teacher said that the seats had to spin to show her everything because she was too arrogant. There were many people far more capable than her, sitting on higher seats, but she always thought of herself as the best. The teacher had to make the seats spin to show her that.

When she promised the teacher she would be less arrogant so that the spinning would stop, the teacher made the seats spin even faster. When she asked why she always encountered people who took advantage of her in her work, she saw them sitting in the same space. The teacher said that everyone there had not fully cultivated themselves yet, so they all had to practice together in that space. The teacher pointed out that she was not yet spiritually mature, which is why she was sitting among those people. She had to sit with them to reflect on herself.

The teacher continued, saying that if someone spiritually more advanced than her left, it meant they indirectly gave her the space to grow. If someone less spiritually advanced than her was present, she would leave them. The teacher showed her many people because, for a long time, she had not fully embraced the lessons meant for her. She had failed to learn patience and perseverance. The teacher explained that she had been relying too much on her intelligence and excellence without practicing patience. The teacher would make her repeat the lessons until she understood.

The teacher also told her that her children were very intelligent, but she had been dismissive of them. Her children were sitting on higher seats than hers, yet she looked down on them. To help her understand, the teacher put her children next to her. The teacher had given her everything — good health, a stable family — so that she could focus on learning the lesson of patience and not be distracted by external worries.

Personal Reflection

I personally find this lesson extremely valuable, not just for myself but for many of us, especially in a time when there’s a lot of pressure to succeed quickly and prove ourselves, which leads to a lack of true love and patience with what we do. In the family context, this is also a valuable lesson about not placing too much pressure and unrealistic expectations on our children, which can lead to control and excessive harshness. From my perspective, learning with the motivation of intrinsic joy always leads to the ability to self-learn and self-develop throughout life, and is far healthier than learning solely for achievements or the expectations of others.
