BORED

I tend to get bored quickly, so there are many things I don’t finish because I lose interest halfway through. Many times, I hate this quick boredom in myself.

But there’s also an interesting side to boredom.

For example, when I listen to someone go on about “my life story and the struggles I face,” they just keep telling it year after year, time after time, without getting bored. They remain the character in the story. Meanwhile, I sit and listen so many times that I start to get bored.

So, when I start telling someone about “my life story and the hardships I’ve faced” … by the second time, my own mouth starts to feel off because I’m already bored.

Similarly, when I start talking about “my life story and the extraordinary things I’ve done” … by the third time, I start getting bored too.

Because I’m no longer the person in those stories. I get up and go do something else, adding new things to my history, quietly.

Because I get bored quickly, I also get tired of holding onto the wrongs others have done to me. Usually, when the winds change, those old things get brought up and break the heart. I choose to forget them instead.

A friend asked me if hearing the not-so-happy stories of customers all the time affects me. No, because I get bored quickly, so after each session, I choose to forget it. Because I get bored so easily, I try to work in a way that if they meet me again, they’ll share a new story.

Turns out, boredom actually gets things done. I love my boredom. Hehe.

In general, nothing in this world is redundant. Planting it in the right place will make it blossom and spread its fragrance.

Of course, sometimes we still choose to cultivate patience, reserved for a few people with whom fate has connected us. So we can still comfortably listen to them rambling about “my life story and the struggles I’ve faced,” or “my life story and the extraordinary things I’ve done,” day after day, month after month, year after year, simply because we cherish their presence in our lives.
