How Did I Start Learning Reiki?
As many of my friends and colleagues know, I officially began working in the healing field in July 2020 as a quantum hypnotist, using the BQH method and especially QHHT from Dolores Cannon. To this day, I still receive quantum hypnosis sessions, and hypnosis remains an amazing tool, opening up a vast ocean of knowledge and experiences for both the hypnotist and the person being hypnotized.
Around the same time, I began learning and practicing Reiki, starting with Holy Fire III Reiki. At the time, I wasn’t thinking about how to add value for clients, like offering a “bonus” service along with another. I was just learning because I enjoyed it. After some time, healing became a trending topic in Vietnam, with many new disciplines emerging like mushrooms after the rain.
The reason I chose to learn Reiki was simple. With hypnosis, as a therapist, I have to use my head and my mouth a lot, but with Reiki, I can still do what I need to do while having a clear mind and a relaxed mouth ^^ because Reiki is more about subtle sensations. However, my journey with Reiki wasn’t all smooth sailing, so even though years have passed, I haven’t yet reached the level of Reiki Master, while my friends and fellow practitioners have already become Reiki teachers and opened booming Reiki classes.
I remember when I first started learning, I was quite nervous and unsure because Reiki was described as something very abstract. But then again, hypnosis is also abstract to someone who has never heard of it, so I decided to go ahead and attend the Reiki class. What followed were some interesting days of experiencing Reiki and practicing it on others, receiving feedback about their experiences. After that, I went through some confused days because, first, there was no one doing Reiki for me; I was always the one giving it to others, and when I tried it on myself, I didn’t feel much =))). Second, when I practiced on others, I could feel some of the energy flowing in and out, notice where the blockages were, and identify which chakras were affected, as the energy was directed to those areas. But I couldn’t yet relate that to other aspects of their life. Of course, when the Reiki energy flows into the body, it still has healing value, but as a therapist, that alone wasn’t enough. I was receiving information but couldn’t expand or understand its meaning, and I didn’t know when the session was complete. I didn’t dare call myself a therapist. And all these skills can only be developed through actual therapy sessions; theoretical learning alone doesn’t cut it. A teacher can’t teach students these things without real-world experience. That’s why I’ve been “waiting for the right time” to become a Reiki Master ^^
Additionally, if you only think of Reiki as a technical tool and forget its core foundation — the 5 Reiki Principles — it’s like wearing a monk’s robe without living according to the teachings of a monk. Over time, it would be like thinking you’re healing others but actually causing more harm, because inside, you still carry a storm of unresolved emotional baggage.

How I Came to Reiki
Next, I moved on to Kundalini Reiki – which I jokingly refer to as the discipline for lazy people, or the “sleeping well without an alarm” practice ^^. The sleep that comes from placing Reiki hands is very unique. Sometimes it’s a deep sleep for a very short time – even just 15 or 20 minutes. Other times, it’s a light sleep where you’re aware that you’re sleeping. But the common feature is a sense of lightness, like the physical weight or pain in your body naturally decreases, and other heavy emotions simply disappear upon waking. There have been many times I set an alarm for just 15 or 20 minutes, and yet I always wake up before it rings. However, the perceptions I have of my clients’ bodies during the sessions have not yet convinced me. It could still be a very powerful tool, but since I lacked specific guidance from a teacher, I couldn’t connect and fully explore my own potential while using it.
At the beginning of 2023, I discovered Siam Reiki and Master Steve, but I didn’t plan to learn Reiki there (since I had already learned Reiki, or so I thought). However, life pushed me into learning Siam Reiki Level 1 as a prerequisite for another course. And the more I progressed to higher levels and other courses, the more I was convinced, and my abilities were noticeably elevated. Along with that, being someone with a lot of ideas but also lazy and forgetful, I really appreciated Master Steve’s approach – straightforward, focused, and efficient in terms of healing. It would require another long post to detail my learning process. This might be a tool that, had I known about it from the beginning, would have saved me time and money spent on other methods. Or perhaps it was because of my previous experiences that I’m now at a level where I can truly appreciate the unique value of Siam Reiki. Either way, I trust the universe arranges everything just as it needs to, so I don’t worry much about the past. In this post, in addition to sharing some personal experiences, I offer a few perspectives for friends and colleagues to consider.
First, if you want to learn a healing discipline for self-healing or for healing your loved ones, it’s important to consider practicality. Often, we don’t have much financial means and shouldn’t waste time on unnecessary details. Otherwise, laziness will set in quickly after just a few tries. I know some people who are Reiki Masters of other lineages because they wanted to learn a systematic tool, and because many Reiki systems don’t have strict requirements regarding the time or number of treatments needed to become a Master, they’ve earned the title but still struggle with the practice. After some time, they end up doing nothing. (With Siam Reiki, if you want to become a Master, you must treat many people, and the more you do, the more it becomes second nature. Eventually, it becomes something you can’t avoid.) Therefore, in this case, I think it’s better to choose a discipline that’s effective, straightforward, and gets results quickly so that you and your loved ones feel the benefits right away, giving you the motivation to overcome laziness and continue. If you later want to progress to a higher level, you can always do so.
Second, if you want to learn to become a professional healer, you should recognize that it’s a long-term journey that requires both time and financial investment. A healer typically needs to be proficient in more than one tool. And even with just one tool, to truly understand it, you need to learn from several different teachers. Along the learning journey, you will often feel uncertain, so it’s important to remain calm and patient, listen to your heart, do what needs to be done, and eventually, you’ll pass through these phases and reach a new level. There will be times when you feel challenged and overwhelmed ^^, but the value of being challenged is the experience, so just enjoy it!

My Reiki Journey: Where I Am Now
After several years of working with both hypnosis and Reiki, I’m very happy to have inspired some friends and colleagues to explore and learn healing disciplines. Even if they don’t choose to study a specific modality, they’re gradually transforming themselves and their lives, learning to see life as something more beautiful. I wish everyone joy in their own journeys. If anyone wants to hear more of my experiences or has any questions about Reiki, feel free to message me here.
And for anyone who becomes a Reiki Master, a healing master, or even a playful Tế Công ^^, when you remember, send me some love and light, haha ^^!
